The Lagos State government has reported that 277,672 indigent residents have been registered in its health insurance initiative known as Ilera Eko.
According to The PUNCH, the Permanent Secretary of the Health Management Agency, Dr. Emmanuella Zamba, revealed this milestone during the launch of the second phase of the state’s health insurance program.
She emphasized Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s dedication to ensuring universal health coverage for every resident.
Zamba highlighted the completion of the ‘EKOSHA Community Storm 1.0’ in the initial half of the year and the subsequent identification of a new group of vulnerable individuals to be included in the scheme during the second phase.
The Eko Social Health Alliance, an initiative established by the agency, aims to create a sustainable framework for implementing free health plans under Ilera Eko for the disadvantaged and indigent populations in the state.
Zamba indicated that EKOSHA, under LASHMA, enrolled 13,897 vulnerable individuals in the first half of the year, contributing to a cumulative enrollment of 277,672 vulnerable residents on the health insurance scheme thus far.
She mentioned that this enrollment, supported by the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund, spans across the state’s 57 local government areas and local council development areas, ensuring healthcare access and enhancing the quality of life for the vulnerable.
