A 24-year-old man, identified as Dada Opeyemi Adesonye, was discovered dead after allegedly hanging himself from a tree in the Afami area of Imasayi, Yewa North Local Government Area, Ogun State.
The tragic discovery was made on Friday morning.
According to The PUNCH, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Omolola Odutola, confirmed the incident.
She revealed that the lifeless body was found by a worker who reported the case to the police.
Odutola said, “On October 18, 2024, at approximately 8:27 am, the Divisional Police Officer received a report of a suspected suicide. An employee of Dangote Cement Transport in Ibese informed authorities after discovering the body around 8:10 am along Dangote-Afami Road.”
The deceased, later identified as Adesonye, was reportedly found hanging from a tree. Police officers were dispatched to the scene and, upon investigation, found no signs of physical violence.
Personal items, including a payment card, key holder, earbud, and N2,000, were recovered from the victim’s pockets.
“The duty officer promptly alerted law enforcement, and the body was identified as Dada Opeyemi Adesonye, a 24-year-old from Abeokuta,” Odutola added.
Following the investigation, the body was released to the family for burial. In light of the incident, Odutola urged families to remain vigilant and attentive to their loved ones, particularly those displaying signs of distress, as youth suicides continue to rise.
“Further updates will be provided. In the meantime, we encourage families to monitor their loved ones closely,” she advised.
