The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has assured Nigerians that no community across the federation will be held captive in 2024.
He stated this while speaking on Channels Television maiden episode of The Morning Brief on Monday.
“We are working with the state government to identify these areas, this year God willing we will make sure bandits hold no community,” he said.
“Members of the community will be able to leave the IDP camps and be able to go there”
His statement comes less than a week after terrorists attacked Plateau State, killing over 80 individuals.
Multiple attacks occurring within days have left numerous individuals disheartened by the security personnel’s efforts in addressing the escalating crisis.
General Musa emphasized that collaborative endeavors represent the sole viable approach to curbing acts of terror in the region.
Attributing the Plateau carnage to a motive aimed at “embarrassing” and undermining the government, the Chief of Defence Staff highlighted the perpetrators’ intent to deceive and discredit the authorities.
“I think the purpose is to embarrass everybody and to make the government look stupid and whoever did this we are up on their heels and making some arrests”
“The general area where this incident occurred is not a small area and people question why the military was not able to react quickly.”
“We cannot be everywhere ,” he said while responding to the military’s delay in accessing the terror-prone areas.
