The captain of the Super Falcons, Onome Ebi, has assured Nigerians that the team will surpass its previous achievements at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup.
“I want to tell Nigerians that we are going to Australia, not just to participate, but to surpass our record in the last outing. I believe we will make Nigerians proud,” the 40-year-old said at the farewell dinner organised for the meeting in Abuja on Saturday night.
The 32 teams that will fight for prizes at the quadrennial championship, which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand, include the nine-time African champions.
In Group B, Randy Waldrum’s team will compete against Canada, Australia, and the Republic of Ireland.
In France four years ago, the Super Falcons advanced to the Round of 16, where Germany eliminated them.
The Super Falcons will depart for Melbourne, Australia, on Sunday (today) for a 15-day training tour.
The competition will take place between July 20 and August 20.
