At least 19 corps members out of the 1,354 from the 2023 Batch B, Stream II of the National Youth Service Corps on Thursday were sanctioned in various ways, including extensions to their service year Bayelsa State.
Additionally, two members received the State Coordinator’s medal of commendation for exemplary performance in the state.
It was reported that six out of the 19 corps members had their service year extended, while 13 faced remobilisation.
The event was overseen by the State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Okpalifo Obiageli Charity, who urged the corps members to continue upholding the NYSC ideals.
Represented by the Deputy Director, Mr. Killa Adegboyega, she praised them for their significant contributions to Bayelsa, particularly in education, health, agriculture, and infrastructure.
“To our dear Corps members, as you step into the next phase of your lives, carry with you the spirit of service, unity and patriotism that has defined your service year,” she stated.
“The skills, experiences and friendships you have gained will serve as a strong foundation for your future endeavors. Embrace the opportunities that lie ahead with confidence and determination, and continue to make positive contributions to our society,” Okpalifo added.
She also advised the corps members to avoid traveling at night and to only use vehicles from government-approved motor parks when returning home.
Earlier, Mr. Wisdom Poyeri, the Executive Assistant to the Governor on NYSC Matters, commended the corps members for their service to the state and encouraged those who wish to stay in Bayelsa after their service year to feel welcome.
