Fifteen senior officers from the Nigerian Army’s Artillery Corps have officially retired from service.
The officers, comprising 11 Major Generals and four Brigadier Generals, were honored in a formal pulling-out ceremony held at the Nigerian Army School of Artillery in Kachia, Kaduna State, on Saturday, October 19, 2024.
A post by the Nigerian Army on Sunday confirmed the retirement, stating, “Fifteen retired generals from the Artillery Corps were pulled out of service at a ceremony held in Kachia, Kaduna State.”
The Artillery Corps is recognized for providing crucial firepower support on the battlefield.
Speaking on behalf of the retirees during the parade, Maj Gen James Myam (retd) reflected on their long and rewarding military careers, expressing deep gratitude for their journey in the armed forces.
“We owe our success to divine grace and the protection we received throughout our years of service,” he said.
Maj Gen Myam also extended his thanks to President Bola Tinubu for the opportunity to serve the nation and expressed appreciation to the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Taoreed Lagbaja.
He wished Lt Gen Lagbaja continued wisdom and strength in leading the Nigerian Army.
Looking back on their military journeys, Maj Gen Myam shared memories of when they first reported as Officer Cadets to the Nigerian Defence Academy in Kaduna.
He also offered advice to serving officers, urging them to remain loyal to the Constitution and the democratically elected government, while emphasizing the need for vigilance and security consciousness.
The retiring general also thanked their families, friends, mentors, and instructors for their support throughout their careers. The event was graced by many high-ranking officers, including former Chief of Army Staff, Maj Gen Alwali Kazir (retd).
