The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed recent social media reports alleging a surge in kidnappings along Gbagada Expressway, describing them as false and recycled misinformation.
In a statement, the Command’s spokesperson, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, emphasized that no such security advisory was released by the police, urging residents to disregard the claim.
“This fake alert first surfaced in January 2024, and we debunked it then. Unfortunately, certain individuals have recirculated it again in March 2025,” Hundeyin said.
Despite dismissing the claims, Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, has directed an immediate security review of the area to reinforce public safety.
“The concerns raised in the alert are not lost on us. As a proactive measure, Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders will reassess the security architecture around Gbagada Expressway to prevent any potential threats,” CP Jimoh stated.
He assured Lagos residents that the Command remains committed to ensuring their safety and encouraged them to continue their daily activities without fear.
“Security measures will be regularly evaluated and enhanced to safeguard all road users and residents of Lagos State,” he added.
The Command also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities to the police through the emergency hotlines: 08065154338, 08063299264, or 09129229576.
Meanwhile, CP Jimoh has ordered detectives to track down and prosecute those responsible for spreading the false information, warning that the police will not tolerate attempts to create panic among Lagosians.
“Anyone caught disseminating fake news should be prepared to face the full wrath of the law,” the statement concluded.
