Jack Taylor’s last-gasp goal deep into stoppage time dealt a severe blow to Wolves and their manager, Gary O’Neil, as Ipswich clinched a dramatic 2-1 victory.
Wolves had appeared to rescue a point when Matheus Cunha’s strike canceled out an earlier Matt Doherty own goal.
However, their inability to deal with a late set-piece proved costly, with Taylor rising to nod in the winner in the 93rd minute.
The dramatic conclusion led to heated scenes at the final whistle. Rayan Ait-Nouri, who received a second yellow card post-match, had to be restrained and guided down the tunnel by Craig Dawson following a confrontation with Ipswich’s Wes Burns. Boos from the Molineux crowd echoed their frustration.
For the first 65 minutes, Ipswich dominated, driven by Liam Delap’s energetic display in attack.
His excellent work on the right wing created confusion in Wolves’ defense, culminating in Doherty inadvertently turning the ball into his own net.
The discontent in the stands grew louder as Wolves squandered chances with errant passes and poor decision-making.
However, in the 72nd minute, Cunha fired in a powerful shot to level the score, exposing some questionable goalkeeping by Arijanet Muric.
Despite late pressure from Wolves, Ipswich had the final say. Taylor’s precise header from Jack Clarke’s expertly delivered set piece secured all three points.
This defeat marks Wolves’ fourth consecutive Premier League loss, leaving them precariously positioned, just four points above the foot of the table.
