Lagos State House of Assembly Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, has been left without security protection following the withdrawal of all aides attached to her office, including police officers.
According to The PUNCH, all security personnel assigned to the Speaker had been removed, raising concerns about her safety.
A source close to Meranda disclosed, “All the Speaker’s security aides have been withdrawn. The same applies to security details attached to the House of Assembly. This means she is now vulnerable.”
The development comes amid growing speculation that Meranda may resign from her position. Reports indicate that high-ranking members of the All Progressives Congress, including former Osun and Ogun State governors, Chief Bisi Akande and Aremo Olusegun Osoba, have intervened in the House leadership crisis.
These political heavyweights reportedly met with key stakeholders at the Governor’s Lodge in Marina, Lagos, on Sunday.
Their discussions, involving members of the Governance Advisory Council, allegedly led to recommendations for the resignation of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa and Meranda, paving the way for a new lawmaker from Lagos West to assume the leadership position.
Meranda’s spokesperson, Ganzallo Victor, confirmed the withdrawal of her security aides, saying, “We don’t know why the authorities have done this, but all police officers and security details attached to her have been removed. She is currently without any official protection.”
Meanwhile, sources within Obasa’s camp have indicated that security aides assigned to him have been reinstated. “As of this morning, all of Obasa’s security aides have been restored,” a source disclosed.
